PRIMARY SECTOR DEVELOPMENT

 
It is a common saying for those that envy and love the Mediterranean that it “holds the most favorable position on the planet”. The Mediterranean nature, this lively three-dimensional painting, is both tamed and wild: we just have to refer to the words of the writer Prevelakis when he describes Rethymno: a calm and angry sea at the same time, embraces this cultivated albeit rugged land. People who have lived in this land, since ancient times, have been strongly tied with these two fiery elements.  They fought them, and they were nurtured by them. Those elements supported their progress and their cultures. Crete and Greece, blessed lands, are both diamonds in the most beautiful "lake" of the world.
 
We are not sure whether the cities are born out of the countryside or the countryside out of the cities, but, undoubtedly, without the fruits of the land the urban centers would have withered and died. Human history, even after the industrial revolution and technological explosion, is intertwined with agriculture, livestock farming and fishing. Even at this time when mutant products threaten the physical processes, a healthy nutrition is not meant without wheat, oil, wine, cheese, vegetables and fruits. That's why they named it “Mediterranean diet”: fresh “stamnagathi” (Cretan vegetable) and exquisite “apaki” (a special smoked meat) blended with the aroma of the authentic aged Cretan vinegar.
 
The N. Daskalantonakis Group, due to Nikos Daskalantonakis' great love for motherland, has been a pioneer in highlighting the importance and role of the primary sector. It could not be any different, since the founder is born and bred in Cretan land and began his professional career by promoting Cretan oil. Grecotel’ s original, traditional farm, created in Rethymno, became the guardian angel of varieties that are in danger of being lost in time and the genuine product matrix of AgrecoFarms constitutes a worthy ambassador of the real wealth of Crete and Greece to the whole world.
 
The operation of the farm and its products have achieved something that is nowadays a major challenge: adopting a new development model for our country and linking the primary sector to culture and tourism. Our everyday visitors were uncountable and the best connoisseurs of our products, rewarding with excellence our triptych quality-price-package and upon returning to their countries they became the best ambassadors and advertisers. Furthermore, by experiencing firsthand the agricultural work of each season, they were able to combine their holidays with nature and rural life as an integral cultural part.
 
Based on these values, the organization supports the producers, the actions and activities related to local production, improvement and promotion, and the rescue of rare varieties. The support of local producers and the development of local products contribute to the development of local economies to robust and modern economies based on quality and professionalism. Our objectives include the general contribution to the dialogue on the mobilization of rural development as part of local culture and the attraction of visitors from Greece and from all over the world. Our conviction, in line with the global trend, is that the path to sustainable development leads also to the return to the natural environment. We go back to find our roots not only to learn but also to move forward with the axis of nature and man as our guide.
