ACOM CONFERENCE – PROMOTING OIL OLIVE TOURISM IN CRETE

On October 24, 2018, a conference was held by ACOM (Association of Cretan Olive Municipalities (ACOM) at the Creta Palace, Grecotel Luxury Resort in Rethymnon in Crete, in the framework of the events for the World Olive Oil Day. The rich program included contributions from archaeologists, agronomists, nutritionists, tourism factors, as well as ceremonies held for awarding hotels and other tourism businesses that developed actions towards the strengthening of the olive oil tourism in 2018.
 
Creta Palace was awarded for the 3rd consecutive year with the Gold Minoan Olive Plate for being in the forefront in the promotion of the cultural heritage of Crete with regards to olives and olive oil as well as the promotion of their contribution to health and longevity with their high nutritional value.



Mr. Giorgos Perantonakis, Director of Creta Palace, referred to the numerous activities of customer information regarding the production and use of olive oil through visits to his traditional farm, participation in olive oil tastings every Thursday at the traditional Café, in cooking courses, tasting games as well as the use of virgin olive oil in his menus.

In his statements, ACOM 's scientific associate Nikos Michelakis referred to the Association's initiatives concerning the promotion of the historical olive trees, the promotion of traditional olive oil presses and the synergies needed to make Crete a destination for olive oil tourism.

Dimitris Stebilis, Director of the "Nikos Daskalantonakis - NDF" Organization, said that it is very important to link tourism to the primary sector, olive cultivation and olive oil production and that they can be a component of Crete's brand name in the country and abroad.

NDF Organization and Grecotel were the main sponsors and Creta Palace offered the space, the audiovisual media, soft drinks and exquisite oil products to all participants.
